CBA London Semester Program

The CBA London Semester Program reports that everything continues to go well. In the past month the students have visited many sites including Canterbury , The Bank of England and the Victoria & Albert Museum. In mid-February, the group traveled to Dublin where they were hosted by the Quinn School of Business at University College Dublin and attended a lecture on the Irish economy followed by a hearty lunch. After lunch, the group traveled to the outskirts of Dublin to tour the European headquarters of Dell, Inc. On February 19, they were hosted by alumnus Jim O’Flaherty (FCRH ’69) at The Royal Automobile Club and heard about his many business experiences over the years. On March 6, they gathered with Fordham alumni and friends at a reception at the Guards and Cavalry Club.

Meet Professor John Fortunato

John A. Fortunato, Ph.D, joined Fordham University in the Business School's area of Communication & Media Management in the fall of 2007. For the past 5 years he was a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the department of Advertising & Public Relations. John recently published a biography about former NFL Commissioner, Pete Rozelle. He has published two other books: Making media: The Influence of Constituency Groups on Mass Media Content, and The Ultimate Assist: The Relationship & Broadcast Strategies of the National Basketball Association & Television Networks.

Professor Fortunato's recent publications include articles in the Journal of Sport Management about the NFL and television relationship, Public Relations Review about the Duke Lacrosse scandal, and Child & Youth Care Forum about how communication professionals can better speak about autism. John also worked the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics for NBC Sports. He enjoys all sports, especially the NFL and major league baseball, playing golf (not particularly well, he tells us), and he looks forward to seeing his 25th and 26th Bruce Springsteen concerts this coming summer.

The First Annual Finance Forum: Market Volatility and its Ripple Effect Across Wall Street
by Sally Reyes

In conjunction with ALPFA Fordham Chapter and Fordham Finance Society, CBA hosted the forum. To provide a perspective on current market conditions, the forum featured round table discussions during dinner and then a panelist discussion with leading Fordham alumni in the Financial Services Industry.

Coming from Investment Bank and Securities firms Goldman, Sachs & Co. to Lehman Brothers, alumni shared career insights ranging from Sales/Trading to Equity Research. Through personal anecdotes, they encouraged students to have strong GPA’s, read the Wall Street Journal and network.

Addressing the hot topic of the evening, four panelists brought together their latest opinions such as the need for more accountability, transparency and conservatism. The panelists voiced their opinions about key causes such as flaws in the financial system and the effects such as a recession and inflation. After the panelist discussion, students leveraged the opportunity to network and exchange business cards.

Overall, CBA is most grateful for our alumni’s continued support and encourages them to join us in our next forum!
