CBA Degrees

The College of Business Administration grants two degrees:
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Public Accounting.

 

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration

Students who enroll in this degree program must take 40 courses with a total of 120 credits. They must fulfill a core of 18 liberal arts courses along with 5 electives for a total of 23 required liberal arts courses. As business students they must take a core requirement of 12 business courses, plus a concentration of 4 courses in one of the business areas. Also they must choose a business elective in any business area. Moreover, they have two free electives that may be either business courses or liberal arts courses. Besides these requirements, students must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 in order to graduate.

 

Bachelor of Science in Public Accounting

To graduate with this degree, students must enroll in 40 courses for a total of 120 credits. Besides taking a liberal arts core of 18 courses for a total of 54 credits, they must also fulfill the business core requirement of 12 courses with 36 credits. Majoring in public accounting, they must take an additional 9 courses: seven accounting courses and 2 related courses, namely, an upper-level law course and an upper-level finance course. These required courses fulfill the New York State requirement for eligibility to take the State's Certified Public Accounting examinations. This demanding program leaves only three liberal arts electives for students to select. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required for graduation.

The College of Business Administration now offers a five year BS/MBA program with the Graduate School of Business Administration. 

 

Bachelor of Science in Management of Information and Communication Systems

The College of Business Administration curriculum requires a minimum of 120 credits and 40 courses to complete the baccalaureate program.  The curriculum for the MICS major has three distinct elements:  The liberal arts and sciences curriculum, the business curriculum and the MICS requirements and electives.  The liberal arts and sciences curriculum, consisting of 16 core courses and two liberal arts electives, is designed to nurture curiosity and provide students  with the broad liberal arts foundation necessary to engage in lifelong learning.  The business curriculum, consisting of twelve core courses, provides breadth of knowledge in any array of business disciplines.

To complete the MICS major, students need to take 10 courses - seven required MICS core courses and three MICS electives.

 

Major Programs Of Study

The College of Business Administration has two programs: a full-time day program designed for recent secondary school graduates who wish to receive their degree after four years of concentrated study and an evening program for students who may be unable to attend classes during the day or who wish to pursue a part-time course of study. Application for admission to the full-time programs is through the Office of Admissions (1-800-Fordham); students wishing admission to the evening program apply through the Office of Evening Admissions (718-817-3720). Requirements for acceptance in the two programs are the same.

Evening program students are subject to the same curriculum requirements as four-year day students, although the term of study will be extended beyond four years in all but exceptional cases. Furthermore, evening program students will fulfill their non-business requirements in Ignatius College, while four-year day students will fulfill these requirements in Fordham College at Rose Hill or Lincoln Center.

 

Four-Year Day Program

The curriculum consists of 40 courses and requires a minimum of 120 credits. A cumulative quality point index of at least 2.0 must be achieved in order to graduate. Students who transfer from another school are required to complete a minimum of 20 courses and 60 credits as matriculated CBA students.

In Freshmen year students will take one business core course and nine liberal arts core courses in Fordham College at Rose Hill or Lincoln Center, five in each semester. Students with AP credits or college transfer credits may take a Fine Arts course or a Natural Science course to fill out their schedules.

Sophomores must take five courses in each semester, consisting of liberal arts core and business core courses.

The first semester of junior year will consist primarily of business core courses while the remaining three semesters of undergraduate study will fulfill the business core and concentration, liberal arts/sciences required and elective courses, free electives and the Business Policy course.

 

Evening Program Curriculum

Students accepted directly into the evening program will normally begin their studies with their liberal arts core requirements. In addition to English composition they will be required to take one course each in fine arts and natural science along with two courses in each of the core humanities areas of English, history, philosophy and theology.

In addition to the core humanities and science courses each student must take twelve business core courses, five business concentration and elective courses, four liberal arts electives and three free electives.

The B.S. degree requires completing a course of study with at least 40 courses and 120 credits with a minimum cumulative index of 2.0. Students who transfer from another school are required to complete a minimum of 20 courses and 60 credits as matriculated CBA students.
