Jesuit
Secretary for CLC ~ Father Alberto Teixeia de
Brito (POR) has been appointed to be the new Jesuit
Secretary for the CLC by Father Peter-Hans Kolvenbach
S.J. the Jesuit General Superior. Attached is Father
Kolvenbach's letter with a brief bio on Father Alberto.
"I
wish to inform you of the appointment of Fr. Alberto
Teixeira de Brito (POR) as the new Jesuit Secretary
for the Christian Life Community (CLC). As you know,
canonically, the CLC is a public lay association within
the Church, which the Society desires to promote actively.
We share the Ignatian spirituality with the CLC and
desire to accompany it in its mission. With Fr. Brito
being named as Secretary for CLC, he is accepted by
the Christian Life Community as its new world-wide
Vice-Ecclesiastical Assistant."

Province
Day 2004 ~ During
Province Day 2004 for the NY Province of the Society
of Jesus held at Fordham Prep on June 18, Rev.
Mark Massa, S.J. shared his reflections on "The
Catholic Church and American Culture: Symbols, Values
and Sentiments" with all those in attendance.
The following is the text of his talk:
"In
April of 1949, Boston's famed Liberal Publishing House
- Beacon Press - Published the First Edition of what
is generally regarded as the most famous, and smartest
anti-Catholic work written in the 20th Century. That
work, Paul Blanshard's American Freedom and Catholic
Power, sold out at the book stores within 4 days,
and Beacon Press Published eleven new editions of
the book within as many months.
