Labor Day 2001

Gwen and I escaped to Puerto Vallarta Mexico between her Spring and Summer teaching  sessions thanks to a colleague's timeshare that was expiring.  Carolyn gave us a week anywhere and we chose Puerto Vallarta because we wanted to veg on a beach and I remember it fondly from a family vacation.

We wanted to bring friends, so we lucked out with a three bedroom overlooking the ocean at a resort called Los Tules.  Unfortunately, no one could make it.  As you'll see we managed to have a good time anyway.....

Condo View
This is the view we woke up to every morning, sitting on our bedroom's balcony deciding how to while away the day...

We took a drink-laden cruise in the Marigalante, a refurbished 300 year old sailing ship... it even has a disco ball!

This is a rooster fish, the largest fish caught on our fishing expedition (though not reeled in by either of us).

The bullfights were gory but fascinating.  Its truly a manly sport.

The "coco loco" was the drink to be drunk at our resort bar.  It had coconut juice (and a bunch of other stuff) in it, and came in a very well decorated coconut.

Now you've seen everything, Michael as a tree-hugger!

Another spectacular view from one of the complex's eight pools.

And a fire dancer, how much do you think he had to drink?  And is it just me, or does it seem odd to have fire on a wooden ship?

This is the yellow fin tuna that Michael actually reeled in.  Gwen caught a Bonito, but we ended up using that as bait later in the day.

Ok, not only was it testosterone-laden, but it was pretty artfully done.  Those bulls had REAL horns!

The saying in Mexico was "Don't drink the water, drink the margaritas!"  We took that to heart.

Multi-tasking at its best!  Staying cool, soaking up the rays and catching up on that summer sappy love story all in one move.
