York’s Course Offerings in the French of England

The French of England: Texts and Territories
Optional MA graduate module taught in the MA in Medieval Literatures by Professor Jocelyn Wogan-Browne.

Anglo-Norman Reading Group
A voluntary weekly reading group for historical and literary documents in the French of England, run by Professors Mark Ormrod and Jocelyn Wogan-Browne during the Spring term. People come in and out according to their own particular interests in the weekly menu of texts. We try to do as little grammar as possible and concentrate on reading passages and extracts across a wide range. Anyone should feel free to come, including those without any previous knowledge of French (that may be a hard place from which to begin and keep up, or not- depending on what other linguistic experience you have- but we would find it very helpful to know if there is a demand for French from scratch for which we should devise a suitable fourth way of provision). An initial menu of texts is proposed and arranged at the first organization meeting of the Spring term and an email list set up.

Ancillary French Modules
Beginning in the academic year 2006-2007, York will offer Ancillary French Modules, i.e. language and text courses in Old French and the French of England, over Autumn and Spring terms, in addition to a continuing module in the literature and texts of the French of England.
