STANDARDS-BASED TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

A partnership among Fordham University's Graduate School of Education, Classroom Connect Inc. and North Carolina's Partnership for Excellence.
"Bringing the power of online learning and site-based leadership to the challenge of developing standards-based classrooms."

Funding in part by a FIPSE LAAP Grant

At a time when schools are facing severe teacher shortages and an urgent need to improve the quality of learning provided by existing teachers, an alternative delivery model in distance learning could be a valuable solution to help resolve some of these problems.

The Anytime Anywhere Learning Professional Development School (AALPDS) partnership is working together to develop flexible, online professional development that addresses critical needs of today's schools. The partnership will rely to a substantial degree on the resources brought to it by Connected University, an online learning community managed by Classroom Connect, Inc. Connected University is an online institution designed to meet the needs of today's educators for dynamic, learner-focused, project-based and instructor-led courses.

Educators who participate in this project will be part of a local school-based team in web-based courses and engage in professional collaboration, dialogue and peer assessment. Through the use of many Internet technologies, the teachers taking these courses will be developing and sharing curriculum resources not only with their own school, but also through a national network of educators.
