Hello Miriam
Yes, there are colleges/universities that offer degree programs via the
internet. I have a site set up to address this isue.
http://members.tripod.com/~lepine/ There are links to Petersons Guide,
Caso, GNA, The Open University, Lifetime Learning and many, many others.
I would also recomend that you go to the library and find the Bear Guide
to Nontraditional Education by Dr. John B. Bear or Campus free college
degrees by Marcy Thorson. These books are great tools to learn the ins
and outs of distance learning. Thes books can also be purchased through
my online bookstore. (see below) If you, or any member of the group,
needs additional guidence please feel free to email me at
lepine@ibm.net.

The University of Phoenix is one of the oldest and largest institutions to
offer degrees via the internet, based on the programs they offer on
campuses in 45 cities around the country. I don't know their total
enrollment (38,000?) but I understand they are now the largest private
university in the United States. The Online Campus degrees are offered in
business, management and technology fields rather than liberal art. At any
rate, their website is

Yes there are a number of colleges and universities offering degree
programs on the WWW. The URL's are included below. You might also be
interested in looking at a very comprehensive book--almost 500
accredited institutions are included--that I've co-authored on degree
programs for adults. It was published this year and provides up-to-date
information about degree programs using the computer and a variety of
other delivery methods. You can read more about this at the publisher's
site www.jist.com.
Also feel free to contact me with any other questions you might have.

I have just volunteered to be on our system's distance learning subcommittee, to
investigate how we can go about encouraging and implementing more distance
learning opportunities within our 12-college system. I've already got a good
basic technical understanding of the Internet but I would like more information
about some of the video/satellite/tele-teaching aspects of distance learning, as
well as specific Internet software geared toward distance learning initiatives,
such as that enabling professors to develop chat groups through their web sites,
etc.
I'm assuming that any books on this subject would probably be out of date before
they even hit the shelves, so I'm wondering whether anyone can recommend some
good on-line technical resources that I might check out.
You can respond to me directly at tobi@commnet.edu. If anyone expresses
interest, I'll assemble the resources I get from responses and then post it as a
whole to the list, to save everyone from seeing two million little "distance
learning references" messages for the next two weeks.
Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge.
