The above silver plate is part of a series of ten plates, depicting David and Goliath.
These silver plates were discovered in Karavas Cyprus as part of the "Cyprus
Treasure" in 1917. They were made in Constantinople under the emperor Heracleus, and
were probably intended as an imperial gift. The above photographed plate is the largest,
which shows David defeating Goliath with the surrounding plates appearing smaller within
the series.
