Research Interests

Books include Prostitution and Prejudice: the Jewish Fight Against White Slavery, 1875-1939 (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1982); Vice and Vigilance: Purity Movements in Britain Since 1700 (Rowman and Littlefield, 1978), parts of which have been republished; and Individualism Versus Socialism in Britain, 1880-1914 (Garland Publishing, 1987).

Dr. Bristow has published essays, articles and encyclopedia entries on the history of profit sharing schemes, strike breaking, anti-socialism, trafficking in women, the First World War, and anti-semitism; and on secondary- school history teaching,  college education for dancers, and career transitions for dancers.  He is editor of The Nostra Aetate Dialogues (Fordham University Press, 1998) the proceedings of a popular interfaith dialogue that he initiated in the 1990’s while Dean of Fordham College at Lincoln Center. He has held grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Philosophical Society.

Research interests include comparative genocide.
