Professor Roxanna Gutierrez is General Counsel of the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem (NDS). She has worked as a public defender for many years. She spent six years representing clients charged with capital crimes in New York State. Professor Gutierrez has supervised criminal and juvenile defense lawyers and legal staff at both the Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Rights Division and NDS. She also was the Assistant Director of the Center for Public Interest Law at Columbia University School of Law. Early in her career, Professor Gutierrez worked at two law firms in the litigation and matrimonial departments respectively: Rogers & Wells and Phillips Nizer Benjamin Krim & Ballon LLP.

Professor Gutierrez began teaching Fundamental Lawyering Skills in 2009 and has taught the course consistently since then. She enjoys working with students very much.

Professor Gutierrez was graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and Williams College.
