The Advanced Certificate in
International Business and Finance

Students in the IPED program who are interested in careers in international business and banking can earn in addition to their MA degree an Advanced Certificate in International Business and Finance from Fordham's Graduate School of Business Administration (GBA). Full-time students can complete the combined MA and Certificate programs in two academic years. An overall GPA of 3.0 must be maintained at the Graduate School of Business to receive the certificate.

Before registering for classes at the Graduate School of Business Administration, the student will have completed 12 or more credits in the IPED MA Program including core courses in economics, quantitative method, and political science. They must have a GPA of 3.0 or better in these courses. To earn the Advanced Certificate in International Business and Finance from GBA, the IPED candidate must complete all requirements for the IPED MA as well as five courses (at least two of these must be finance courses) from the following list:

FN 7421 Principles of Modern Finance
FN 7443 Multinational Investment Analysis (must first take FN 7421)
FN 7451 Financial Management of Multinational Companies (must first take FN 7421)
FN 7455 Global Finance
FN 7458 Contemporary Issues of Global Finance
MG 7635 International Dimensions of Business
AC 7136 International Accounting
CM 7537 Coping with Global Corporate Crisis

Courses designated as international business courses not appearing in the list above may also be taken toward the certificate with prior approval by the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at GBA.

The courses listed above are advanced level courses and IPED students must demonstrate appropriate preparation to receive waivers from prerequisite courses. Successfully completed courses in accounting and finance are required for a waiver from two of the prerequisite courses, AC 6111 Fundamentals of Accounting and FN 6411 The Financial Environment. Students who have not successfully completed courses in finance or accounting in their undergraduate or graduate courses must complete PEGA 6740 Project Accounting or ECGA 5551 Domestic and International Banking (or ACGB 6111 Fundamentals of Accounting) and ECGA 5570 Global Financial Markets (or FN 6411 The Financial Environment) before pursuing the certificate. These courses can count as IPED MA electives with the permission of the IPED director. All other prerequisites, other than those stated above for FN 7443 Multinational Investment Analysis and FN 7451 Financial Management of Multinational Corporations, are deemed satisfied by the core curriculum of the IPED program.
