START OF GUIDE

All Closed Reserve and Reference materials; all Law Library materials stored in assigned carrels, shelves and footnoting tables; and all materials removed from the Law Library must be charged out at the Circulation Desk.

LOAN RULES

Fordham students, faculty and staff with valid ID cards have general circulation privileges. Alumni, non-Fordham law students, and other library pass holders may not borrow books. In addition, many materials, such as Reserve materials and statutory code volumes, may not be removed from the Library. See the Circulation Policy Chart to determine which materials circulate, to whom and for how long.

The Law Library charges fines for overdue materials. The fine schedule is printed under "Overdue Fines" below.

Circulating books which have been requested by other patrons may be recalled after two weeks. Books may be renewed if they have not been requested by other persons. The Library does not release names of borrowers to other library users. When you request a book that is charged out to someone else, the Circulation staff will call you when they have retrieved it from the other borrower.

MISSING BOOKS

If a desired book is not in its proper location in the stacks, check FULLPAC to see if it has been placed on reserve, is on the hold shelf, or charged out. Alert the Circulation staff if the book appears to be missing, and a search for the book will be initiated; you will be notified if the book is located.

OVERDUE FINES

Overdue fines are assessed as follows:

Reserve materials: $1.00/hour for first 10 hours;
$1.50/hour for each additional hour;
Up to maximum $15.00/item
Non-Reserve materials: $.50/day for first 10 days;
$1.00/day for each additional day;
an additional $.50/day if the item was recalled;
Up to maximum $25.00/item
Lost materials: If an item is not returned within 30 days of the time it becomes overdue (or 3 days in the case of Reserve material), the Library declares the material lost and charges the borrower the current amount of the fine plus a $50.00 replacement and processing fee, whether or not the item is repurchased.

Fines not paid by semester's end are sent to the Bursar's Office for collection.

RESERVATIONS FOR RESERVE MATERIALS

Reservations for particular Reserve items may be made up to 24 hours in advance at the Circulation Desk. Holds may be placed on a particular copy or on the next copy to be returned. Users may only place a hold on a particular item once in any 24 hour period, but may renew it if no one else has requested it.

RESHELVING

Library users are expected to reshelve all reporters, statutes, law reviews, Shepard's citators, digests and indexes as soon as they are finished with them. Classified materials should placed on the Reshelving Areas for pick-up and return to the shelves by Library staff.
