INTERLIBRARY LOAN If needed material is not available in the Library's collections, the Library may be able to obtain it from another institution through interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan requests must be submitted to the Reference Desk staff, who will verify that the material is not available here, and then forward the request to the Interlibrary Loan staff. You will be notified when the items requested have arrived. Interlibrary Loan services are available only to current Fordham Law School students, faculty and staff. Professional reference assistance is provided at the Reference Desk, located directly opposite the Circulation Desk. The Reference Librarians can direct you to the proper information sources for your purposes, and explain how these various sources are used. When needed materials are not available in this library, the Reference staff will attempt to locate and obtain them from another.
The Reference Desk is staffed for most of the hours the library is open; see the library hours for details. During the academic year, Reference Librarians are usually available 9:30 am to 8:30 pm weekdays and noon to 7 pm Sundays. Although we have three librarians on the staff whose job is principally reference, other librarians provide reference service on a scheduled basis. If no one is at the Reference Desk, or the Reference Librarian is busy with a complicated request, ask the Circulation staff to contact another librarian to assist you. The Reference Librarians offer training classes in computerized legal research using LEXIS, WESTLAW and the Internet throughout the academic year. Basic, refresher and advanced skills classes are offered on a rotating basis. Class schedules are announced throughout each semester, and are subject to cancellation if an insufficient number of students are registered as of 5 p.m. the day prior to the class. In addition, the reference staff is available to teach specialized research methods and sources to groups by prior arrangement. Faculty or group leaders who wish to have a librarian visit their class or meet with their group should contact the Associate Law Librarian for Public Services. |
