GO! Camden & Philadelphia gives you the power to shape your own service experience through a number of different work sites. The team works with the Romero Center, an urban retreat and social justice educational center in the heart of east Camden, NJ. The center seeks to build bridges of understanding between diverse communities through education, reflection and service. During the day, students partner with community based organizations including a school, a day shelter, a community center for people affected by HIV and AIDS, the South Jersey Food Bank, and a wheelchair community. In the evening, participants reconvene at the center to discuss race, poverty and class in a reflective and constructive environment.
The group visits the community art murals in the City of Philadelphia with Professor Maureen O'Connell. They explore how art is used to express messages of hope, cooperation, humanity and resilience.
