Project Description: |
The group travels to Worawora in the Volta region of Ghana where they partner with the community based organization, People in Action for Community Enhancement (PACE-Ghana). P.A.C.E-Ghana was established as a community based non profit organization in Ghana in 2007 but the spirit of the organization took root much earlier, in 2002. After a visit to his home town of Worawora (Ra-Ra), Ghana, Le Moyne college student Kofi Addai captured the interest and imagination of fellow students Joe Wachunas and Melanie Addai with his description of his travels and reunion with family in Ghana. Together they envisioned an opportunity to contribute to Worawora and communities across Ghana. Their effort great form the collection of books and funds to a LeMoyne College service project and group tip to Worawora and the establishment of the town’s first library, the Okyeame Dankwa Memorial Community Library in 2004.
The team visits a local school, hospital, and community center and partners with Unite for Sight to assist with eye exams. The team explores issues of education, literacy, healthcare, and sustainable development and immerses themselves in the local culture through meetings with community representatives and village elders. The team also has the opportunity to explore the rich Ghanaian culture by visiting several ecological and cultural-historical sites in Accra and to gain a deepr understanding of the history of the slave trade in Cape Coast.

"There is nothing more life changing than letting others teach you how amazing and valuable life is. The hope that the Ghanaians have has really put things into perspective for me and they sent me home a better person."
