IGNATIAN SOCIETY
Celebrating a Tradition of Excellence
for the Glory of God and the service of others
Mission
The Ignatian Society is a student run organization that seeks to promote and foster an appreciation for the tradition of Ignatian Spirituality and Jesuit Education. This tradition of excellence in education for the glory of God and service of neighbor stretches back over 450 years since the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) first entered into the ministry of higher education. Today with an ever decreasing number of Jesuits this spirit which began with Ignatius must be passed on to young lay women and men, to be kept alive. Jesuits are, in the words of the 35th General Congregation, "A fire that kindles other fires." This fire sparked by Ignatius and kindled by the Society of Jesus, is passed on to their students, so that they may, in the words of St.Ignatius,"Set the world on fire!"
Why Join?
Joining the Ignatian Society is a unique oppourtunity to round out your experience at Fordham. If you are an alumnus of a Jesuit secondary school, the Ignatian Society is a great way to stay connected to the spirit and mission you first experienced in those years. If you are new to Jesuit education, Ignatian Society is a great way to learn more about the history and be a part of the future of Jesuit education. Additionally Ignatian Society provides many oppourtunities to meet and engage members of the Fordham Jesuit Community. Thus it is a great way to meet "real, live Jesuits" from those who have just entered who are studying at Ciszek Hall, to those who are now retired and living at the New York Province Infirmary at Murray-Weigel Hall. Finally, Ignatian Society provides you with a great oppourtunity to meet talented and generous fellow students.
Meetings
The Ignatian Society meets each week in the Duane Library to discuss a particular topic of interest, or to plan for upcomming events. All are welcome to each meeting.
