Obtaining
Acrobat
Reader
Adobe Systems, Inc. makes free versions of the AcrobatTM reader tool available for every major platform. To get yours, just use the yellow button and follow the downloading instructions on the Adobe site.
Download Acrobat now

The files in the sample chapter can only be read by version 4 or later of the Acrobat reader so if your reader version is older than this you should obtain an updated one.

Installing
and
Configuring
Acrobat
Reader
Before you can view the MathForLife sample chapter as intended, you'll need to install the Acrobat reader. This is straightforward but, if needed, instructions are available on the Acrobat Reader Technical Support page.

You'll also need to configure your browser to use it, or in some cases the PDFViewer plugin which is distributed with the reader, to display the online PDF files in the sample chapter. You'll need version 3.x or later of either Netscape Navigator/Communicator of Microsoft Internet Explorer to get the tools to mesh seamlessly. Exactly what you need to do to configure your browser varies considerably depending on what browser you use and what platform (Mac, Windows...) you are working on and for some browsers can be a bit arcane. Detailed instructions for installation on all versions and for configuration of each of the common browser/platform combinations are available by following links on the Acrobat Reader Technical Support page. I strongly recommend using at these instructions rather than trying to perform the configuration on your own.

Once you are correctly configured, you should be able to navigate through the MathForLife site just like any other except that when you link to a PDF file you'll see it in an the Acrobat reader window. If you find that following links to other files causes your browser to begin downloading the file you requested instead of just displaying it, you are not correctly configured. Check that you have followed all the instructions for configuring your browser properly.
