2nd Biennial Graduate Student Conference “What is being? What does it mean to be? This is the question of metaphysics. It is old beyond age, newer than the most novel thought. It calls to us from the dawn of human mindfulness; it calls for its renewal again...” By once again recalling us to this fundamental question, Professor Desmond invites us to take up the issues of metaphysics: What is metaphysical thinking? Can the critique of metaphysics be overcome? Should it be? What are the fundamental categories; and what are the senses of being? Are there origins? Does the universe have a beginning or an end? What are things, and how are they intelligible? Is there a relation between a self and being? What are truth, goodness, and unity?
