Art, Morality, and Politics (PHLV 3188)

This senior seminar explores the inter-relationship among artistic, moral and political values. The questions that will frame this course will be specific: What makes for art? What are the ethical limitations, impositions and injunctions that surround the art world? How does politics play a role in art? What is art's influence on the polis ? We will use philosophical and critical resources to explore these questions. We will also look at the major controversies of the past in which all three of these areas intersect.
