(PHLG

Thierry Meynard
This course is an introduction to the philosophical traditions in China. We will focus on the three main schools: Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism (including Ch'an, also known in Japan and in the West as Zen Buddhism). We will pay special attention to the tension between ethico-political and mystical-religious dimensions of those traditions.
This course counts for the Global Studies requirement, as well as for the Philosophy major and minor.
