Immanuel Kant
 (PHLU 3620)

Professor Babette Babich

Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason is unquestionably the single most powerful contribution to contemporary philosophy ever written. Through neo-Kantianism, Kant's critical philosophy is a strong influence on analytic philosophy, particularly the philosophy of science. By way of his influence not only on Nietzsche but also Adorno, Heidegger, and Deleuze, Kant is equally influential in continental thought. Participants in this course will read the First Critique in the context of its Kant’s own background. We will conclude with a brief overview of the Second and Third Critiques.
