Issues of Life and Death (PHLV 3180)

| This Senior Values Seminar explores issues that raise moral, philosophical, legal, and medical questions about life and death, concentrating on controversial positions such as genetics and justice, euthanasia, the right to die, abortion, assisted suicide, the meaning of the inherent value of life, human identity and uniqueness. Requirements include more-than-average participation in the seminar meetings, developing a research paper topic and preparing an oral version of the paper for presentation during the last few sessions of the seminar. Readings from the work of Nozick, Rawls, Scanlon, Thomson, Dworkin, Noonan, Daniels, and others. |
