Philosophy of Religion (PHLU 3330)

Bryan Frances

[Counts for Religious Studies]. This course will be part metaphysical and part epistemological. The former examines evidence for the existence of God. In this part of the course we take a critical look at the reasons people have given to think that there is such an entity as God; we will also look at the reasons people have given to think that there is no God. The latter part of the course examines evidence for the existence of rational beliefs, pro and con, regarding God’s existence. In this part we ask ourselves what makes theistic beliefs rational, if anything. In particular, we will look at whether people who are aware of many different religions can have rational beliefs that say that just one of those religions is correct.
