Other Faith Groups
Fordham, the Jesuit University of New York, has a long tradition of preparing its students to become "men and women for others," in the words of the late Father Pedro Arrupe, Superior General of the Society of Jesus. Part of this proud history is the diversity of our student body: students of every color and creed come to Fordham for an education of the heart as well as the mind, in the tradition of Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. To be a Catholic univeristy in this religiously pluralistic setting means to affirm both faith and reason in the pursuit of wisdom and learning, with an emphasis always on the ethical dimension of education. To be Jesuit means to seek out and welcome religious diversity on our campuses while engaging in sophisticated dialogue with other faiths, ever committed to the promotion of justice and the protection of human rights.
Through the Vice President for Mission and Ministry, which is charged with fostering a deeper understanding of Fordham's Jesuit and Catholic mission, the Office of Campus Ministry celebrates the rich diversity of religious and ethical convictions that enliven its campuses and provides opportunities for dialogue and growth. Campus Ministry directly supports the work of the following student organizations:
Orthodox Christian Fellowship, which gathers monthly on the Rose Hill campus for Divine Liturgy followed by dinner and conversation. Fr. Elias G. Villas, chaplain. Email: ocf@fordham.edu
Muslim Student Association, which strives to convey and teach the true meaning of al-Islam while contributing to the overall mission of Fordham University. The MSA utilizes a dedicated prayer room on the Rose Hill campus. Email: msa@fordham.edu
Jewish Student Organization, which is affiliated with Hillel, the international foundation for Jewish Campus life, brings together Jewish and non-Jewish students to learn about Jewish culture and discuss current events.
