The Offices of Career Services and Experiential Education look forward to launching Fordham students into the early stages of their career development. When exploring the new Fordham Futures program, a 4-year approach to career education, students will acquire the skills that will help them reach their personal and professional goals. In addition, Career Services is dedicated to building strong relationships with diverse employers to promote exciting opportunities for students. Through these employer partnerships, Career Services provides students access to a world of opportunities in New York City and beyond.
Career Services is inspired by the University’s mission to foster lifelong habits of careful observation, critical thinking, creativity, moral reflection and articulate expression. The Fordham Futures program celebrates this mission, alongside the liberal arts of listening, thinking, speaking, writing, reading, reflecting, measuring, calculating, estimating, and dreaming as they relate to the world of work.
Career Counseling Services: Career counselors are available daily for scheduled appointments, and are happy to meet with students. Counselors are trained to assist all students by identifying individual interests, values and goals. Counselors are also valuable resources for resume and cover letter critiques, interview preparation and more. Professional Development Workshops: Workshop topics routinely include Resume & Cover Letter, Interview Skills, Career Exploration, The Job Search Process, Applying to Graduate School, Professional Etiquette, Networking Skills and more!
Fordham CareerLink: CareerLink is Fordham’s exclusive online job and internship database. Students can view part-time, full-time and internship opportunities, receive email notifications, application deadlines and notice of special career-related and networking events. Internship Program: Internships are incredibly valuable experiences, and provide tremendous opportunity for professional growth and development. As a student in New York City, there are endless opportunities in varied fields. Internships are offered to all majors and are available during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Typically, students begin internship exploration during their sophomore and/or junior year. To support Experiential Education, Career Services guides students through the mentoring, shadowing and internship process. Internship Information Sessions are offered at the start of each semester.
Career and Internship Fairs: Career Fairs are offered throughout the academic year and are available to all students. Students network and submit resumes to employers representing diverse industries for internship and full-time opportunities right here on the Fordham Campus. Panels & Networking Events: Informational Panels & Networking Events are designed to provide useful career information to students of all majors. Fordham alumni and other successful professionals share their expertise and network for future career opportunities.
Career View Program: Career Views offer students a first-hand introduction to the world of work by visiting the offices of diverse organizations. Exclusive company visits are scheduled throughout the academic year, where recruiters network with students, provide a tour of the facility, and offer overviews of the participating organization. Many students have been able to secure future internship opportunities through participation in the program. Students are encouraged to register early for Career Views of interest, as space is often limited.
Diversity in the World of Work Conference: Career Services will host the 1st Annual Diversity Conference on Saturday, November 3rd 2012, from 9am to 3pm. This conference is open to all students and will include workshops from exciting employers in varied industries.
Diversity Networking Banquet: Career Services will host this prestigious event on March 6th 2013 to encourage and support opportunity in the recruitment process. The banquet provides a unique networking opportunity as both students and employers are invited to participate in an expert-led discussion on the topic of diversity in the workplace.
Young Alumni Mentoring Program: Designed for freshmen and sophomores, this program pairs students with Fordham alumni working in the student’s field of interest. Networking events are routinely offered in the evening to promote rapport building between students, mentors and other young alumni.
On-Campus Recruiting Program: Representatives from private, not-for-profit and government organizations schedule on campus visits to interview Fordham students seeking internships and full-time entry-level positions. Students can participate in the on-campus recruiting program by attending CareerLink Workshops: Interview Skills and Professional Etiquette.
