Football Rams Give Back
Fordham football players have been busy this off-season lending a helping hand at the St. James Community Center in the Bronx. Under the leadership of senior captain John San Marco, the Rams have been visiting the center on a regular basis helping students of all ages with their homework as well as the development of their athletic skills.

Baseball
The Rams got off to a good start, shutting out Pace University 9-0 at Finnerty Field in Pleasantville, N.Y., March 25. It was the team’s first shut out since April 2001.
Senior Tim Boyle (pictured at right) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while senior Bryan Kelly, freshman Craig Tscherednikov and sophomore Brad Kinder combined to pitch a three-hit shutout.
The game went scoreless until the top of the seventh inning, when Fordham scored five times to take a 5-0 lead. Sophomore Jeremy Bourgeois led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on an error by the shortstop, which also allowed junior Joe Gwozdz to reach base. Following a sacrifice bunt, sophomore Kevin Brush knocked in both runners with a single to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Junior Jeremy Suarez singled and senior Jon Volosin walked to load the bases. All three runners would score in the inning, as senior Tim Boyle had an RBI-single, and junior Kurt Thomas had a two-run fielder's choice.
Fordham tacked on four more runs in the eighth inning as Suarez hit a two-run double, while Boyle and Tim Short had an RBI-single apiece.
The Fordham pitching staff did the rest as senior Bryan Kelly went the first five innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out six batters. Tscherednikov and Kinder pitched two innings each without giving up a hit. Tscherednikov got the win in relief, his first collegiate victory.
Softball
After throwing a near perfect game against Army on March 26, freshman pitcher Michelle Schlichtig (pictured at right) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 30. It was Schlichtig’s second Rookie of the Week honor this season.
Schlichtig helped the Rams to a perfect 5-0 week, picking up three wins herself. In 21 innings, she struck out 17 while walking just one batter and allowed just ten hits and five runs, two earned. The three wins give Schlichtig 11 on the year, breaking the Fordham single-season record of ten set by Jennifer Satriale (FCO ‘94) in 1992 and matched last year by sophomore Carol Fischer.
Schlichtig almost became the first Fordham softball player to throw a perfect game. She entered the seventh inning without having allowed a base runner, but gave up a two-out single to Army’s Lauren Bobar. She finished the game with six strikeouts and no walks. The right-hander also picked up wins against Iona (throwing a five-hitter and striking out six), and Pennsylvania (throwing a four-hitter and striking out five).
On the year, Schlichtig is 11-3 with a 1.23 earned run average. She has 59 strikeouts in 96.2 innings and has walked only 14 batters. At the plate, she is hitting .361 (26-72) with seven doubles, two home runs and 15 RBIs.
