TITLE:                       Assistant Director of Residential Life for Leadership

                                    Development and Training

 

DEPARTMENT:      Office of Residential Life at Rose Hill

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Leadership Development and Training is a live-on position responsible for hiring, training and supervising the residence hall staff in a residential community housing approximately 3150 students.  The Assistant Director for Leadership Development and Training serves as a liaison with other Student Affairs staff in planning campus-wide programs to address student development needs.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.         Responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating a professional staff of 1 F/T Area Coordinator (AC), 5 F/T Resident Directors (RDs), 6 P/T Resident Directors (RDs), 2 Associate Resident Directors (ARDs) 82 Resident Assistants (RAs), and 1 Graduate Resident Assistant (GRA).  Supervision includes constant interaction with staff, on-going evaluation and performance appraisals and daily contact regarding student needs and issues.  Responsible for supervising and training one full time Support Staff member.

 

2.         Develops, organizes and implements a comprehensive training program for all professional staff, including New Staff Training, August Training, January Training, April Training, Inservice Training and on-going professional development opportunities.

 

3.         Coordinates professional staff selection process (AC, RD and RA), staff evaluation process and staff training retreats.

 

4.         Designs, implements and manages the Office of Residential Life Programming Model to address the developmental, social, cultural, educational, community service and spiritual needs of all students.  Oversees programming to address student alcohol culture on campus, including late night, recurring, and weekend programming.  Communicates programming needs to staffs during particular times of year, including Opening Week, Alcohol Awareness Week, Halloween, Spring Weekend, etc.  Ensures residential life programming is reflective of Fordham University mission and Division of Student Affairs vision statements.

 

5.         Responsible for communicating University and Division wide information to Residential Life Staff.

 

6.         Advises the Residence Halls Association in conjunction with other staff members.

 

7.         Develops and implements the Freshman Core Programming Series with the freshman Resident Directors.

 

8.         Serves on and/or coordinates various Residential Life and campus-wide committees related to student needs.  Examples include Strategic Planning Working Groups, Alcohol Awareness and Response, Technology, Integrated Learning Communities, Campus Assault and Relationship Education, Diversity Awareness, Wellness Housing, Selection Committees, etc.

 

9.         Administers budget lines, including staff room and board, staff tuition remission, special events, staff programming, and Residence Hall Association.  Oversees petty cash process, including organization of receipts and distribution of reimbursements.

 

10.       Coordinates all Technology needs of the Office of Residential Life, including the website and the various Filemaker information databases, including the Judicial Database, Counseling Database, Information Database, Guest Pass Database, Emergency Card Database, and various Operations Databases.  Efforts include creating, maintaining, training, updating, and distributing information.

 

11.       Attends and manages staff participation at and coverage of University wide events, including, but not limited to:  University Openings and Closings, Orientations, Homecoming, Open House, Spring Preview, Spring Weekend, and Student Leadership and Community Development Events (Campus Concerts, Senior Nights, Senior Week, etc.).

 

12.       Coordinates the Guest Pass system, updating the database, ordering supplies, and communicating information to staff and students, including dates of limited guest pass release.

 

13.       Manages student break stays and building opening and closings in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Housing Operations.

 

14.       Serves as the Judicial Hearing Officer for all staff harassment adjudications.

 

15.       Assists the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life in the development and presentation of short and long-term goals for the Office of Residential Life.

 

16.       Assists with emergency needs after hours as needed.

 

17.       Assumes other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the

            Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION

 

EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

Master's Degree required, preferably in Education, Counseling, Student Personnel, Higher Education or related field.

 

TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two years experience in Residential Life is required.  Three to five years experience in Residential Life is preferred.  The position also requires a thorough knowledge of the Residential Life functions within a university, as well as a commitment and appreciation for the liberal arts, Jesuit, Catholic tradition.
