Alcohol and Other Drug Program

Mr. Edward Wahesh, Director
McGinley Student Center 217 and 218
AODEProgram@fordham.edu
718.817.3948
----------------------
The Alcohol and Other Drug Education (AODE) Program oversees
comprehensive substance abuse prevention at Fordham University’s Rose Hill
campus. Prevention initiatives include: education, environmental management,
assessment and early intervention strategies. Each component is part of an
integrated approach that is science based and inherently student centered.

Educational & Referral Services

The AODE Program is designed to provide individual and population
targeted interventions that focus on the reduction of high-risk use of alcohol and
other drugs. Individual focused interventions provided by AODE includes the
Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) program, which offers educational groups,
reflective exercises, assessments and personalized feedback sessions to students who
violate the University’s alcohol and other drug policy. Services are available to all
students interested in learning more about alcohol and other drug related issues.
Population targeted interventions include facilitating the freshmen core programming
AODE session and advising the Peer Educators. In addition, the AODE Program
offers referral information regarding off-campus substance abuse treatment facilities
and local Twelve Step related support groups.

Peer Education

The Fordham University Peer Educators are members of an official student-led
organization that plan events and develop campaigns to increase positive health
behaviors on and off campus and decrease the harmful effects associated with the
misuse and abuse of alcohol and other drugs. The students in this organization are
trained and advised by the Alcohol and Other Drug Education Program.

Social and educational initiatives sponsored by the Peer Educators include:
the Passport Off-Campus NYC, which is an alcohol and drug free guide to New York
City; the Rose Hill Rush, a 5k Fun Run around campus; and National Collegiate
Alcohol Awareness Week, which includes lectures, alcohol screening events and
marketing campaigns.

Visit our website at: www.fordham.edu/aode for free and confidential
alcohol and marijuana use online screening and feedback programs, or to learn
more information about the resources, staff and services provided by the Alcohol
and Other Drug Education Program at Rose Hill.

Campus Ministry

The Reverend Joseph Currie, S.J., Director
McGinley Center Room 102
(718) 817-4500
cm@fordham.edu

Fordham University fosters the holistic development of all its students. Campus
Ministry participates in this mission by helping members of the University
community grow in grace as well as wisdom. We are committed to forming
individuals who live by personal values and convictions, who seek to serve others
and especially those in great need, and who strive to form a personal relationship
with God. The Campus Ministry offices and programs serve all members of the
Fordham community, regardless of one’s faith traditions. We provide opportunities
for worship, counsel, spiritual direction, Retreats, Global Outreach, Choirs, Interfaith
Prayer Services, RCIA and numerous special programs to foster the life of faith at
Fordham. We collaborate with student clubs, Residential Life, various University
departments, as well as outside organizations, to provide activities that will heighten
the community’s awareness of God at work among us and in our world.

Worship

The Eucharist is at the center of the worshiping community at Fordham.
Campus Ministry provides numerous opportunities for celebrating the Eucharist both
on Sundays and during the week. We encourage students to participate in various
liturgical ministries as acolytes, musicians, lectors, hospitality and Eucharistic
ministers. Students who desire entrance into the Church or who want to complete
their baptismal commitment through Confirmation and Eucharist are invited to RCIA
(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). In addition, we encourage students to
participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, prayer groups, retreats, ecumenical
services and other special liturgies. Protestant and Orthodox Chaplains have joined
the Campus Ministry staff as we seek to support all members of the Fordham
Community and encourage worship in all faith traditions.

Liturgical Music

Robert Minotti
minotti@fordham.edu
McGinley Center, Room 106
(718) 817-4504

Music at the University Church is vibrant and rich and is integral to the
quality of worship that is the center of our life. The Liturgical Choir provides musical
leadership at the Sunday morning Eucharist as well as on special occasions
throughout the academic year. The repertoire of the Liturgical Choir includes music
from the Renaissance through the twentieth century. The Folk Choir provides
leadership at the Sunday Evening Eucharist at Rose Hill. This choir is composed of
singers and instrumentalists, and specializes in more contemporary music.
Arrangements for this choir include scores for piano, guitar, flute and vocal harmony.

We are most receptive to new talent and encourage as many students as possible to
consider membership in one of these choirs or to serve as instrumentalists.

Liturgical Ministries

Sister Regina DeVitta
McGinley Center, Room 205A
(718) 817-4539

We encourage active participation by community members in all our
liturgies. There are ample opportunities for students to serve at our liturgical
celebrations, as readers, eucharistic ministers, acolytes/servers, and hospitality
ministers. Student ministers receive an initial training in liturgical spirituality and in
the practical aspects of their ministry and, after a daylong prayerful reflection, they
are commissioned at the evening Eucharist for their important service to the
community. Experience is not necessary.

Retreats

Randy Jerome, Coordinator
McGinley Center Room 206
(718) 817-4509
rjerome@fordham.edu

The Fordham Retreat Ministry warmly welcomes and encourages all
students to further explore their faith and grow in relationship with God, self and
others. With a variety of retreats, great student leaders and a beautiful new retreat
house, we hope that will join us throughout the year!
Core Retreats: Modeled upon the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, these core retreats
touch all aspects of our lives and invite us to live our faith more fully.

• Emmaus: Join the thousands of Fordham students who have
walked this amazing road to
Emmaus…finding Goad in all things and embracing God’s
unconditional love. This is one journey you will never forget!
• Kairos: A silent retreat focusing on the birth, ministry, passion and
death of Jesus. Guided prayer moments, Scriptural meditations
and opportunities for individual spiritual direction make this a
truly meaningful retreat experience.
• Charis: An encouraging overnight retreat for seniors focusing on
grace filled living and decision making. Reflect on the college
experience, learn from recent Fordham Grads, explore the Ignation
process of discernment and encourage one another in all that lies
ahead!
Theme Retreats The following theme retreats are offered throughout the year.
Retreats may also be organized at the request of various campus organizations and
clubs.
• Fresh-Vision: A fun, faith filled retreat for all first year students!
Establish a solid vision for the future as you connect with other
first year students, learn from “seasoned veterans” of Fordham
and grow in your own God given identity and appreciation for
others.
• Men’s Spirituality: An encouraging overnight retreat for all men
of faith. Hear inspirational stories and testimonies from great men
of faith while addressing some of the tough life and faith issues of
our day.
• Women’s Spirituality: Celebrate the gift of being a woman on this
overnight retreat as we share our stories and explore what it
means to see our selves more fully and completely through the
eyes of God.
• Monastic Retreat: A unique opportunity to experience life, work
and prayer with the Monks of Mt. Saviour’s Benedictine Monastic
Community!
After the Retreat: Various socials and reunions help students stay in touch and build
upon friendships formed. Students are also made aware of and encouraged to
participate in the many different worship, service, and faith sharing opportunities on
campus.

For more information about the Retreat Ministry and specifics on any of the
upcoming retreats, please visit the Campus Ministry web page or contact the Retreat
Coordinator, Randy Jerome: McGinley 206, 718-817-4509.

Christian Life Communities

Randy Jerome, Coordinator
McGinley Center Room 206
(718) 817-4509
rjerome@fordham.edu

Founded upon the larger Ignatian movement and the three pillars of Faith,
Community and Mission, CLC is a great way to nourish and strengthen your faith,
form lasting friendships, and live out the Gospel values in everyday life! Small groups
of six to ten students meet each week for about an hour while all of Fordham’s groups
gather together at various times throughout the year for large group socials and
service projects. Students are encouraged to register at anytime as CLC’s are
continually forming. There are also info sessions at the beginning of each semester
that give students a better feel for what CLC’s are all about…check those out or
contact us today and come live in the love!

Global Outreach

Mr. Paul Francis, Coordinator
McGinley Center Room 205C
(718) 817-4506

The Global Outreach Program of Campus Ministry provides worldwide
service opportunities to the students, faculty and staff of Fordham University. By
serving in the local area and in the developing parts of our world, participants enrich
their cultural vision and come to a deeper understanding of the Christian principle of
justice, a vital part of our Jesuit education. Those who wish to serve on a Global
Outreach project should be open to other cultures and be willing to learn from them.
Project participants are asked to live in relatively simple environments and work
hand in hand with others. The activities of each project vary considerably. They
range from tutoring children in English, to working in hospices and building homes
for those in need. Global Outreach provides opportunities not only to help others
who are in need, but to realize one’s own potential as a person for others. In serving
the needy in our country and abroad, each individual becomes more aware of the
global community.

Career Services

McGinley Student Center, Room 224
(718) 817-4350 Fax: (718) 817-5155
www.fordham.edu/cpp
E-mail: careerplan@fordham.edu

The Office of Career Services believes in empowering our students to
become leaders and ultimately practice occupational wellness in their adult lives.
Through involvement in internships and special career development programs and
events that are unique to Fordham, students develop individual talents, skills, and
values. As students gain experience in various work settings and further develop
practical skills, they become leaders and contributors to their organization and
society. In our efforts to guide students in determining their professional path, we
seek to encourage their understanding of the need to balance their career with
spiritual, mental and physical well being.

All students are encouraged to visit our office beginning freshman year for
individual career counseling and to begin the journey of career exploration. The
Career Services Office services students’ freshmen through senior year and offers
programs aimed to meet the needs of all of our students. Computerized personality
and career assessments are available at the Counseling Center located in O’Hare Hall,
lower level. These assessments provide an ideal first step for most students to begin
to identify possible career options. The following are examples of the services our
office provides.

MonsterTRAK.com: All students are encouraged to register with our office via
www.monstertrak.com. By doing so, students will have access to part-time, full-time,
summer and internship opportunities on-line 24/7. Additionally, students will
receive weekly emails from our office notifying them of special events, resume
submission deadlines, additional career opportunities, etc.

Workshop Series: Workshops are routinely facilitated on topics such as Resume and
Cover Letter Writing, Interviewing Skills, Career Exploration, the Job Search Process,
Applying to Graduate School, Ethics and Etiquette in the Job Search Process;
Networking and more!

Internship Program: Internships offer short-term exposure to a student’s anticipated
career field. Internships are offered to all Fordham College and College of Business
Administration majors and are available during the Fall, Spring and Summer
semesters. Typically students begin internship exploration during their sophomore
and/or junior year. In order to be eligible to obtain an internship, through our office,
students are required to attend an Internship Information session a semester prior to
the start of the semester they plan to intern. Internship Information Sessions are
offered at the start of each semester.

On-Campus Recruiting Program: Several hundred companies/organizations from
private, public and government sectors visit Fordham University for professional
recruiting purposes during the Fall and Spring semesters. Seniors have the
opportunity to interview with organizations during their final two semesters for full-
time career opportunities that begin after graduation. Additionally, Career and
Internship Fairs are offered throughout the academic year at all three campuses.

Students have the opportunity to network with employers representing various
industries for internship and full-time career opportunities.

The Career View Program: Unique to Fordham, offers students a first hand
introduction to the world of work and the culture of organizations by visiting
companies representing a variety of industries in profit and not-for-profit sectors.
Company visits are scheduled throughout the semester and in order for students to
participate they must sign up in advance. During scheduled company visits: Alumni
and/or recruiters provide an overview of the company/organization, a tour of the
facility, and a networking exchange for students and professionals. Companies
schedule a convenient time period to provide valuable on-site learning experience for
Fordham students. Depending on the organization we visit, the size of the group will
vary, but is typically 13 students per visit. Many students, in the past, have been able
to secure an internship through participation in this program.

Young Alumni Mentoring Program: A quality program designed for Freshmen and
Sophomores. Students are paired with a Fordham alumni mentor that works in a
career the student has an interest in further exploring. Evening networking events are

facilitated as part of this program allowing students to further develop professional
relationships with their mentors and other young alumni.

Professional Networking/ Alumni Panel Events: Are designed to provide useful
information to Liberal Arts majors about their marketability in the business, not-forprofit
and government realms and the multitude of opportunities available. Fordham
Alumni and other successful business professionals return to Fordham to share their
expertise with students and network for future career opportunities.

For additional information concerning any of the above mentioned
programs or our services, please contact our office directly and/or feel free to stop by
and visit us. Our staff looks forward to the opportunity to best assist you in making
the most out of your experience at Fordham University.

Office of Multicultural Affairs

The Fordham University Office of Multicultural Affairs supports and
realizes the University’s mission to prepare citizens for leadership in an increasingly
multicultural and multinational society by intentionally engaging diversity to benefit
both our student population and the greater University community. We seek to
encourage the formation of an inclusive campus culture and learning environment in
which each member of the Fordham University family is welcomed and valued.

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides a variety of resources to help
facilitate an engaged campus community that proactively explores various areas of
diversity, including race and ethnicity, gender, culture, sexual orientation,
socioeconomic status, religious orientation, international concerns, and social
justice/oppression issues. Additionally, the Office of Multicultural Affairs works in
concert with student clubs, faculty, academic offices, and other University
departments to develop creative programs and collaborative projects designed to
