Rapid changes in law, regulation and extensive media coverage of sexual misconduct in secondary and higher education have you looking for resources and advice?
On June 3, 2014, Fordham University will host The Policy Institute for a full day of engaging dialogue and instruction considering multiple perspectives on addressing sexual misconduct on campuses and in schools. Balance victim-friendly practices with legal requirements, building the foundation for a campus-wide, comprehensive approach.
Examine the 4 Ps of being proactive:
1. Policy: best definitions and cyber-sexual misconduct additions to policy
2. Protocol: how faculty, staff, and school employees should respond to reports from alleged victims and address concerns of potential perpetrators
3. Procedure: how to investigate and adjudicate cases
4. Prevention: research supported strategies and online learning options to meet the needs of diverse student populations
Understand jurisdictional overlap with campus, criminal, and civil courts. Decipher the responsibilities of each school administrator, as well as 3rd parties such as attorneys, parents of minors and others. Come away with strategies for training bystanders, encouraging reporting, and enhancing visibility and appropriate transparency in your school’s system.
