MEN'S CREW

Open Water Victory at Dad Vail 2007
Men's Crew has been a club sport at Fordham since 1915. During this time, the team has been most impressive, winning several national championships. The team is a member of the Dad Vail affiliation, making the Dad Vail Regatta the focus of its spring racing season. Exceptional crews have competed at the IRA National Championships, Henley Royal Regatta, and the San Diego Crew Classic. The team is divided into novice and varsity squads. Novices include those who are new to the sport of rowing, and incoming freshmen with little experience. The varsity squad is made up of upperclassmen and those freshmen that demonstrate an ability to compete at the varsity level. Fordham Athletics also sponsors a women's varsity team.
Fordham Crew trains on the Harlem River, under the direction of head coach Ted Bonanno. Coach Bonanno, in his 19th year at Fordham, has led the team to extraordinary success. Since his arrival in 1989, Fordham has medaled every year at the Dad Vail and other major collegiate regattas. During his tenure, Fordham has had 10 undefeated seasons and 14 national championships: nine at the Dad Vail, three at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta, one at the Division-I National Championships, and one at the IRA Championship. In the off-season Coach Bonanno has run a senior national team development camp that produced numerous National and Canadian Henley championships. His rowing experience includes stints on the national team during the 1970's. Bonanno has also served as the head coach of the Puerto Rican, Guatemalan, and Indian Olympic Rowing Teams.

This past fall season saw continued success for Fordham Crew as they finished second in the varsity eight at the Head of the Housatonic and then rowed two strong entries in the Head of the Charles. The heavyweight eight finishing twenty-seventh among sixty-eight crews in the Club Eight event and the varsity lightweight eight finishing eighteenth of twenty-eight crews. After the Head of The Schuylkill was cancelled due to weather conditions, the team ended their fall season at the Fall Metropolitan Championships. The Rams swept all varsity events, including successfully defending the Grimaldi Cup for varsity eights and winning the overall points trophy. The squad also rowed a highly competitive and enthusiastic frosh/novice heavyweight eight. With a winning season and several key rowers returning in 2008, Fordham Crew's prospects for continued excellence seem assured. 2007 Dad Vail Regatta Lightweight 4+ - Gold Medalists
