Fordham University Men's Crew Men’s crew debuted as a club sport at Fordham in 1915. After a hiatus caused by World War I, crew resumed in 1957, beginning a half-century of successful competition. The team has competed at the IRA national championships, the Henley Royal Regatta and the San Diego Crew Classic, with victories at both the IRA and Sa Diego. The focal point of the spring racing season is the Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the nation. Fordham men’s crews have captured medals at 10 of the last 11 Dad Vail Regattas in either the varsity eight, varsity lightweight eight or lightweight four, with three championships in the four (2001, 2004, 2007) and two in the lightweight eight (2002, 2008).
Fordham Crew trains at the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse on the Harlem River, under the direction of head coach Ted Bonanno. During Coach Bonanno’s 21-year tenure, Fordham has had 10 undefeated crews and 16 national championships, ten at the Dad Vail, three at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta, one each at the Division-I national championships and IRA Championship. In the off season, Coach Bonanno has run a senior national team development camp that produced numerous U.S. National and Canadian Henley championships. As a competitor, he participated on the US national team in the 1970s. Bonanno has also served as the head coach of the Puerto Rican, Guatemalan and Indian Olympic rowing teams. | Contact

| | | | | In the 2008 season, Fordham’s top men’s eight capped an undefeated regular season as a lightweight crew with a victory at the Dad Vail Regatta. In 2009, Fordham competed throughout the season as a heavyweight eight, placing third at the Dad Vail. With seven rowers from last year’s top eight returning, plus an incoming class including several outstanding high school oarsmen, Fordham men’s crew has a strong nucleus for the 2009-2010 season. | | | | | At the 2009 Head of the Charles, Fordham took home the gold and shattered the course record by nearly 10 seconds in the Collegiate Four event, defeating Notre Dame, University of Toronto, defending champion Michigan and 32 other crews. | | | | | The team is divided into novice and varsity squads. The varsity squad is made up of upperclassmen and those freshmen who demonstrate an ability to compete at the varsity level. Novices include those who are new to the sport, and incoming freshmen with little experience. The novice squad’s coach is Steve Georgalis, a former coach at Georgia Tech. Many members of Fordham’s championship crews began their careers as novices at Fordham. | | | | | Fordham Men's Crew always encourages new students to join. Interested high school students should contact the Office of Admissions for an application. High school students are also encouraged to contact Coach Bonanno with any questions about our men’s or women's rowing programs. If you are currently a student at Fordham, you can get involved with Fordham Men's Crew by contacting Coach Bonanno. | | | | 2009 Dad Vail Heavyweight Varsity 8
