FORDHAM UNIVERSITY SAILING TEAM

Fordham’s homeport is Morris Yacht & Beach Club on the tip of City Island overlooking Long Island Sound and Eastchester Bay. It has five and one half acres of park-like property; 400 feet of waterfront, and is a 10-minute drive from our beautiful Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City.

Across the Sound is the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and across the Bay is New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler. Columbia University’s Sailing Team is also a neighbor on City Island. Joint practices are held periodically with all three teams. (Click Here for the Morris Yacht & Beach Club's home page.)

Fordham has its own shed and maintains a fleet of ten 420 sailboats on dollies adjacent to the club’s sandy beach. The club has a floating dock and launch service. A 16’ Scout with a 40 HP, four-stroke, Honda outboard engine serves as Safety Boat and is kept at Sailmaker Marine, a short distance away on City Island. Relations with the folks at Morris and Sailmaker Marine are excellent.

Unfortunately, in March 2006, Morris Yacht & Beach Club’s magnificent, 150-year old clubhouse mansion was destroyed by fire. Rebuilding plans are currently underway and completed construction of a new clubhouse is anticipated in 2009.

To assist our friends at Morris, the Sailing Team is soliciting burgee donations from yacht clubs around the world for display in the new clubhouse. Over 100 burgees have been received.
