Our Sailing Venue
Morris Yacht & Beach Club is located on the tip of City Island overlooking Long Island Sound and Eastchester Bay. It has five and one-half acres of park-like property; 400’ of waterfront, and is a 10-minute drive from our beautiful Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, one of the five boroughs of New York City.
Fordham has its own shed and maintains its fleet on dollies located a short walk to the club’s sandy beach. The club has floating docks and launch service.
City Island is one of three points of a triangle, which forms a hotbed of College Sailing in Western Long Island Sound. Across the Sound is the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and across the Bay is SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler. Columbia University’s Sailing Team is a nearby neighbor on City Island. Joint practices are held with all three teams but weekly with Columbia, with whom we purchased a 20-boat fleet of 420s in 2010.
After the former clubhouse was destroyed by fire, our sailors initiated a burgee collection project, which resulted in 205 burgees from yacht clubs and Sailing associations all over the world being donated for display in the new clubhouse. Both the Fordham University Sailing Team and Morris Yacht & Beach Club are grateful for this broad expression of support and we thank every one of our donors, who helped make this effort so successful.
