Any student who shows a passion for building community at Fordham University is invited to serve as a member of United Student Government.
The members that comprise United Student Government (USG) come from all walks of life. USG draws its members from such clubs as the Commuter Students Association, the Residence Halls
Association, Global Outreach, Molimo, the Student Organization of Latinos, the Asian Pacific American Coalition, and many other clubs.
USG is the sole organization representing all FCLC students and the primary governing organization of and for the student body. All FCLC students are members of USG. Three USG Senators are elected from each class (twelve total), and comprise the voting body. The elected officers that comprise the Executive Board are the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. All officers are elected in the spring semester to serve a one-year term. The Freshmen Senate positions are elected in the fall.
To provide a forum for students to speak;
To represent student concerns as members of University Committees;
To recommend policies to improve the educational standards and facilities of the College;
To advocate student rights;
To encourage student embracement of responsibilities – to each other, the University, the community and humanity;
To assist clubs in their registration and operation;
To serve on the Student Activities Budget Committee (SABC) to allocate funding for activities serve the needs of the student body;
Who is eligible to run for Senator?
Any student who is interested in running for USG Senator is eligible to run. All interested students are required to attend an info session in the Spring Semester, and must complete an Elections packet, which consists of obtaining signatures and answering a questionnaire. Any candidate must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
Who is eligible to run for the Executive Board?
Candidates running for the Office of President or Vice President must have been members of United Student Government for two semesters, or must have served on the executive board of an existing club or organization while remaining in good standing with the University. Any candidate must maintain a 2.5 GPA.
