Senior Transitions
Ready for next year?
Prepare yourself for the new challenges and opportunities that you will encounter in the year after you graduate. Attend our sessions designed to help you prepare for life after college. Sessions are presented by guests or Fordham staff, administrators and young alumni. The location for the sessions will be in the basement of Walsh Residence Hall unless otherwise specified.
What to Expect in Graduate School
Tuesday, 15 September, 7 p.m.
Comprehensive exams, dissertations, presentations … these are just a few of the words to add to your grad school vocabulary. Meet our panelists who have survived and thrived in graduate school and let them tell you what to expect from a variety of graduate programs.
So What are You Going to Do Next Year? Targeting the Right Career
Monday, 19 October, 7 p.m.
Need some help making those important career decisions? Participate in this session and learn helpful tips on targeting the career that is right for you. Drop off a resume to be critiqued by a career counselor and learn more about the career services offered on campus.
Navigating the Office Cocktail Hour
Tuesday, 17 November, 7 p.m.
Have a cocktail event as part of your interview schedule? Wondering if you should opt in for the office happy hour after work on Friday? This workshop will explore how socializing in and around the workplace can effect your personal and professional experiences.
Healthy Cooking
Tuesday, 1 December, 7 p.m.
Mom doesn’t live here anymore and eating out every night can add up. Learn some tips and take home some easy recipes on how to cook on a budget while living on your own.
What’s That Fork For? A Guide to Business Etiquette
Monday, 25 January, 7 p.m. | Rose Hill Commons
Whether you’re on a business lunch interview, cocktail reception or blind date, it’s always important to use proper etiquette. This session features a cocktail reception and sit-down dinner so that you can practice what you learn. Space is limited, so sign up in McGinley 204 early.
Managing Your Finances and Understanding Benefits
Monday, 22 February, 7 p.m.
What is FICA and why does my paycheck shrink because of it? What’s the difference between a 401(k), 403(b) and an IRA? Who is Sallie Mae and why do I owe her so much money? What are my rights as an employee? If you need the answers to these questions and many more about
benefits and finances, you won’t want to miss this session.
Apartment Hunting Essentials
Tuesday, 9 March, 7 p.m.
Whether you live in on campus, on Arthur, or at home, it may be time for you to start looking for your own place in New York City or beyond. Learn about your rights as a renter, how to work with a real estate agent or broker and how to find an affordable apartment that suits your needs.
Afterwards, talk with our alumni panelists who can fill you in on what it is like to move in with your parents again, move in with roommates or have a place all to yourself.
Life After College
Monday, 12 April, 7 p.m.
Ever wonder what your social life will be like after college? How will relationships in the real world, including those with your family, compare to those you have while in college? Worried about finding a faith community, interest group or alumni program that is right for you? Our panel
can help you figure out what to expect after your college days have come to an end. Whether you stay in New York City or relocate, this session can help you stay linked to the people, places and hobbies you enjoy most.
Charis Senior’s Retreat
Saturday, 17 April –Sunday, 18 April | Philip H. McGrath House of Prayer, Goshen, N.Y.
This overnight retreat is primarily for seniors, but anyone seeking direction or facing major life transitions is welcome to attend. Reflect on the college experience, learn from recent Fordham grads, explore the Ignatian process of discernment and look to all that lies ahead with a renewed
