Our Mission
Founded in 1852, Fordham Debate Society is the eighth oldest collegiate debate society in the United States and the oldest club on campus. The society frequently beat Oxford and Cambridge in debates early in the 20th century and more recently was the first American university to host the World Debating Championships, with only Princeton and Yale additionally holding the honor of hosting in the U.S. Fordham Debate also had Top 5 finishes at Nationals, North American Championships, and major tournaments like Princeton and Columbia within the past five years. While always being active on various levels, this is a particularly rich time for the team. Besides having Top 10 finishes at the most competitive tournaments of the semester, Fordham went to finals at the National Novice Tournament. In fact, our novice class is arguably the best in the nation. With our history of excellence comes an understanding of the Fordham debate motto "eloquentia perfecta."
