The Satin Dolls

About Us:

The Satin Dolls, Fordham University’s first and only all-female A Cappella group, was founded in the spring of 2001 by Margeau Ney (’03). In its original incarnation, the group was a Jazz combo, taking its name from a Duke Ellington standard. As the original members experimented with different musical and performance styles, they began tending more and more towards purely vocal arrangements, and within their first year settled on an exclusively A Cappella format. In 2002, under the direction of original Musical Director Cara DiNorcia (’03), the group began to take its current form as an All-Female group performing original arrangements of contemporary songs. Since that time, the Satin Dolls have had huge success, performing up and down the East Coast, twice advancing to the Semifinal round of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, and performing at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and on mtvU’s Video Music Awards Show, The Woodies. The group has released three albums since 2002, including 2002’s “Live at WFUV,” 2003’s “All Dolled Up,” and their most recent album, “The Pink Album.” With 15 or fewer members of all voice parts, as well as vocal percussion, the Satin Dolls are known for their eclectic repertoire, entertaining performances, and outstanding vocal talent. Auditions for new members are held each semester on the Rose Hill Campus.
