Participation
as a Theatre Major or Minor includes a lab requirement as follows:
Majors – 50 hours for 6 consecutive
semesters 1 Semester Scene
Shop Lab Hours with Theatre Crafts
1 Semester Run Crew Lab Hours with Visual Design
1 Semester in Electrics or Costumes
3 Semesters by interview or assignment in your area of interest*
Minors – 50 hours for
3 consecutive semesters 1
Semester Scene Shop Lab Hours with Theatre Crafts
1 Semester Run Crew Lab Hours with Visual Design
1 Semester in Electrics or Costumes
All Majors and Minors strike both Mainstage shows while registered
in Theatre Crafts and Visual Design classes. Every student will
be required to have 4 strike credits. The time spent at strike
will not be counted toward the 50 hours of your lab contract.
Every student will have a clearly defined Faculty or Student
Supervisor that will determine call times and procedures for
signing in and out for work. Your Supervisor will assign your
work calls and you are required to attend. Each student must
provide their Supervisor with their class and outside work schedule
at the beginning of the semester.
Every student is responsible for making sure his/her supervisor
has a record of the hours they worked.
*If you indicate no area
of interest the faculty will assign you a lab hours area based
on departmental need.
Fordham Theatre Program has
a policy called warn/cut. In cases when the faculty has doubts
about whether a student should continue in their major, he or
she is given a warning. The student then has another semester
to dispel the questions. If after the following semester the
evaluation remains the same, then the student has the option
of remaining a Theatre Minor but must declare another major.
Theatre majors are exempt from
the Fine Arts requirement in the general core curriculum. Minors
are encouraged to complete their Fine Arts core with a course
other than Invitation to Theatre, unless they've made their
decision to become a minor after taking Invitation to Theatre.
No D grade work
will be credited toward the major or minor in Theatre.
