"The high quality of training shows in the students' work which is of the caliber of a graduate program. In last year's senior showcase, I saw a personal uniqueness about each actor, and an individual approach to character which demonstrated great inner depth."
- Julie Tucker, NYC Independent Casting Director
(Casting credits include the Roundabout Theatre Company, Williamstown Theatre Festival and HBO's Six Feet Under)

“The energy and skills Fordham students bring to their theatre classes are an inspiration to a teacher.”
- Marian Seldes, Actor and Fordham Theatre Adjunct Faculty

Fordham Theatre training embraces a company concept with all theatre students participating as members of the Fordham University Theatre Company. Each student has the opportunity to work on four faculty- or guest-directed mainstage productions and up to twenty-five student-directed and student-written studio theatre productions per year.

The program gives students the flexibility to pursue one of four tracks (Performance, Design & Production, Playwriting, or Directing) and stresses the value and marketability of a well-trained, well-rounded theatre major. All theatre majors, regardless of track, take the Fordham liberal arts core which is eighteen courses. Oftentimes, diversification of skills is the key to getting a first job in the theatre and, to that end, students are encouraged to study acting, playwriting, directing, design, theatre history, and stage management, with a specialization in any one of these areas tailored to the individual student. Students are also encouraged to participate in experimental theatre.

Additionally, the theatre has a multidisciplinary approach and encourages students to study with other departments at Fordham such as English, Visual Arts, Media Studies, and Communications.

The diversification of faculty and distinguished guest artists gives students exciting opportunities to work with leading theatre professionals and begin to focus on their particular interests and strengths.

The interface of liberal arts courses with the extremely diverse theatre courses provides students the opportunity to discover their unique and individual areas of artistic talent and self-expression.
