Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
Apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan
You must complete the
FAFSA,
Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling Session in order to receive a Graduate PLUS Loan. Students who borrowed Graduate PLUS Loans at Fordham since the 2010-2011 academic year do
NOT have to complete another MPN or Entrance Counseling Session.
Based upon the student's credit worthiness, a student may borrow up to their cost of attendance minus all other aid in a Graduate PLUS Loan.

- ALL students should use their full Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan eligibility first before applying for a Graduate PLUS Loan. The Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan has a lower interest rate and a portion of it can be subsidized while you are in school.
- If your enrollment is less than half-time, and you are involved in degree requirements, dissertation, or field work, and are requesting a loan for that term, you must complete a Matriculated Student Status Certification with the head of your department and the Registrar's Office.

Steps for students to obtain a 2012-2013 Graduate PLUS Loan:
Step 1: Secure a Graduate PLUS credit decision:
- Go to http://studentloans.gov and sign in using your Federal Student Aid PIN (from pin.ed.gov).
- Click on the “Request PLUS Loan” link on the left side of the screen under the “PLUS Loan Process” heading.
- Select “Graduate PLUS” as your loan type and complete credit check.
- Be sure to select 2012-2013 as the Award Year on Step 2
- Do NOT click the option to borrow the maximum loan amount for which you are eligible. This will cause a delay in processing in most cases.
Step 2: If you are approved:
- Complete your MPN if you have not previously borrowed a Graduate PLUS Loan at Fordham. Click the “Complete MPN” link on the left side of the screen and choose the “Graduate PLUS Option” to complete your MPN.
Step 3: Complete and Submit your 2012-2013 Graduate PLUS Request Form
If you are denied:
- You may reapply using an endorser. This is done by selecting the “Endorse PLUS Loan” option after logging into http://studentloans.gov .
- You can appeal the credit decision. This is done by selecting the “Appeal Credit Decision” option after logging into http://studentloans.gov .
