What do I need to Do to be Eligible for Federal Educational Loan Programs?

  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA takes 4-6 weeks to process. You will receive from the Federal Processor a Student Aid Report (SAR). After confirming the information on the SAR return the accurate and signed form to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Electronic Processing- Fordham's electronic loan processing is the quickest and most efficient way to obtain a Stafford loan. If your lender participates in NYS Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), loan proceeds are transferred electronically directly to the University to be applied to your student account. If you plan to borrow, please complete a loan request worksheet at the Financial Aid office. You will receive an application pre-certified by Fordham directly from your guarantor. Follow the instructions provided with the application.
  • A student must have at least part time status to be eligible to receive Stafford loans. Registration for 6 or more credits or your Department's certification of at least half-time status satisfies this requirement.
  • Complete an Entrance/Exit interview form at the Financial Aid Office.

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

  • Range of Possible TAP Grants for Graduate Students is $75.00 - $550.00
  • For New York State residents only, New York State Higher Education Service Corporation (NYSHESC) determines TAP award based on NYS net taxable income and dependency status. The student will receive an award certificate from NYSHESC. Fordham University must be listed on award certificate. If Fordham University is not listed on the certificate, a TAP change form must be completed.
  • What do I need to do in order to be considered for TAP?
  1. File a FAFSA.
  2. If you are a NYS resident and listed at least one NYS school on your FAFSA, a separate Express TAP Application (ETA) will be sent to you directly from NYSHESC.
