Financial Aid Application Process for Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Undergraduate Students

  • On-Line Financial Planning tool to help create a plan for financing the student's education over the four-year college career.
  • The four-year plan must take into consideration increases in the annual cost of attendance, which have historically averaged approximately 5% per year.

In order to qualify for financial assistance, it is critical that you submit all necessary forms on time. Applications for Financial Aid are due February 1 for Freshmen, and May 1 for Transfer Students.

Eligibility for State, Federal and Institutional Aid is determined by Estimated Family Contribution, Enrollment Status, Academic performance and availability of Funds.


FEDERAL, STATE AND INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS

  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA takes 2 weeks to process. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail as your confirmation. Confirm that all information is correct and that Fordham University is listed on the SAR. To make corrections to your FAFSA use "Corrections on the Web" to correct your FAFSA data and submit the corrections electronically. Click here to apply for your SFA PIN.   • File the College Scholarship Service "PROFILE" form. You will receive an acknowledgment from CSS. Make certain Fordham is listed as a school receiving your information. If you do not receive and acknowledgment within four weeks, call CSS.
  • New York State Residents must file a New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Application. New York State Higher Education Service Corporation (NYSHESC) determines TAP awards based on NYS net taxable income and dependency status. The student will receive an award certificate from NYSHESC. Fordham University must be listed on the award certificate. If Fordham University is not listed on the certificate, a TAP Change Form must be completed. A student must be enrolled Full Time to be considered for TAP, and have filed the FAFSA.

Mail all completed Financial Aid Forms by deadlines.(Fall Freshmen applicants file between Jan . 1 and Feb. 1; Fall Transfers between Jan. 1 and May 1. All Spring term applicants file by the Nov. 1 prior to the spring term.)

WHAT TO EXPECT


Additional information may be requested of you in order to complete your application for Financial Aid or to clarify information. Please submit requested information as quickly as possible as not to delay the packaging process.

  • Copies of Federal Taxes for both Students and Parents, and a verification worksheet may be requested if you are selected for a process called verification.
  • Be certain that all documents have been signed.
  • Fordham will send you a letter notifying you of your financial aid package. Read the letter and the enclosed guide carefully. Comply with all requirements.
  • Visit My.Fordham to accept awards online or return a signed copy of the award letter to your appropriate campus. 
Electronic Processing- Fordham's electronic loan processing is the quickest and most efficient way to obtain a Stafford Loan. If your lender participates in NYS Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), loan proceeds are transferred electronically directly to the University to be applied to your student account. You will receive an application pre-certified by Fordham directly from your guarantor. Follow the instructions provided with the application.

Students borrowing for the first time at Fordham are required by federal regulations to complete an "Entrance Interview" before proceeds of the loan (one half each semester) can be credited to your student account.
