University Aid and Fordham Administered Aid

The following aid comes from Fordham's own resources and is offered to full-time students to augment aid from all other sources. Unless aid is specifically identified as a room award, all Fordham aid whether scholarship, grant or a remission of tuition, is a discount of tuition charges and is applicable only to Fordham tuition charges. The total of all tuition-specific aid, internal and external, may not exceed Fordham's tuition charges. Aid is awarded for a maximum of 8 academic year semesters (fall and spring).

All students must be in good academic standing and remain in compliance with other university policies and the university code of conduct.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Fordham University Presidential, Jesuit and Semifinalist Scholarships

Who is eligible?

Nominees are freshmen graduating from high school in the top 1% of their class, or semifinalists in the National Merit, National Achievement or Hispanic Recognition competitions who are also in the top 10% of their class. Jesuit Scholarship recipients must also be Jesuit high school graduates.

On what basis are awards granted?

Excellent Academic Achievement in high school, test scores, personal characteristics. Presidential and Jesuit Scholarships are awarded to the top 20 applicants each year.

What is the range of the awards?

Full tuition less N.Y.S. Scholarship, Tap, Pell and one-half of aid received from all other sources. Presidential and Jesuit awards also include room (excluding board and fees). Student must maintain a 'full-time' status.

For how long is the award given?

These are four year scholarships requiring reapplication for renewal. It may be renewed for up to eight academic year semesters (fall and spring) as long as 'full-time' status and a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained. The FAFSA and TAP application (NY Residents only) must be completed each year.
Fordham University Dean's Scholarship

Who is eligible?

The most talented students (the top 6-8% of the applicant pool) will be nominated for these scholarships.

On what basis are awards granted?

A composite of strong overall high school performance and proven academic potential as shown by SAT or ACT scores.

What is the range of the awards?

A merit scholarship of at least $10,000.  if need is demonstrated on the Profile, awards may range up to $22,000.  This award will only be applied toward tuition charges for courses taken at Fordham. Student must maintain a 'full-time' status.

For how long is the award given?

These are four year scholarships requiring reapplication for renewal. It may be renewed for up to eight academic year semesters (fall and spring) as long as 'full-time' status and a minimum GPA of 3.0 is maintained. The FAFSA and TAP application (NY Residents only) must be completed each year.
Loyola and Joques Scholarships

Who is eligible?

All freshmen and transfer candidates are considered  for Loyola Scholarships.  Upon review, the most talented students in the applicant pool not selected for the Dean's scholarship are chosen for this award.

On what basis are awards granted?

Loyola Scholarships are awarded to students who show high academic performance and leadership ability.  Not awarded to recipients of scholarships described above.

What is the range of the awards?

Up to $8,000 per year.

For how long is the award given?

These are one-year scholarships requiring reapplication each year.  It may be renewed up to eight academic year semesters (fall and spring). The Loyola requires a 3.0 GPA and the Joques requires a 2.75 GPA.
John Lafarge Fellows

Who is eligible?

Students from cultural minorities who demonstrate strong  academic and leadership skills.

On what basis are awards granted?

Review by the Committee on Admission.

What is the range of the awards?

Up to $7,000 per year.

For how long is the award given?

Four years.
J.P. Morgan Chase Smart Start Scholarship

Who is eligible?

Residents of New York City who attend a high school in the five boroughs; plan to attend Fordham in the fall immediately following graduation, majoring in business, education communication, engineering, liberal arts, social science and technology.

On what basis are awards granted?

ETS will conduct preliminary screening of candidates.  Semifinalists will be interviewed by J.P. Morgan Chase executives who will make the final selection.

What is the range of the awards?

Tuition for four years; $500 per year for books and supplies; paid internship at J.P. Morgan Chase.
For how long is the award given? Four years (eight consecutive semesters) as long as satisfactory academic performance is maintained at Fordham and a fully satisfactory performance rating for their work at J.P. Morgan Chase is maintained.

Grant-In-Aid

This gift aid is awarded based on financial need and academic standing.  It requires:

  • An annual filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • demonstration of continued financial need
  • satisfactory academic performance
Fordham Tuition Award

This gift aid is awarded based on academic standing.  It requires:

  • An annual filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • satisfactory academic performance
Metro Grant
This $6,000 grant is the minimum award offered to Fall 2008 entering freshman and transfer students who commute to Fordham from their permanent residence in New York City or the surrounding areas. In order to be eligible you must also be a citizen or eligible noncitizen. It is renewable up to 4 years for eligible students who continue to commute and maintain satisfactory progress toward their degree. Students eligible for both Metro Grant and a Fordham Scholarship will receive the higher of the two awards, not a combination of the two.
Athletic Aid

Student-athletes on "Atlantic 10 Conference" teams may be awarded scholarships based on athletic ability.  Football grants are awarded under Patriot League regulations and are based on both financial need and athletic ability.  These athletic grants require an annual re-application and are renewed based on family need as calculated each year using the required financial aid forms.  Since need varies depending on the family situation, the amount of the grant may fluctuate from year to year.  In addition to the award letter, in June student athletes will receive an athletic contract which must be signed and returned before the aid becomes official and your student account is credited.

 
Federal & State Aid Administered

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
These federal funds are awarded from a limited amount of aid administered by Fordham University.  It is used to provide assistance to students who demonstrate exceptional need.
Federal Perkins Loan
Funds from this program come primarily from repayments by previous Fordham University borrowers, in addition to contributions from Fordham and the Federal Government. This loan currently has an annual interest rate of 5%. Interest does not accruewhile you are in school. Repayment does not begin until nine months after you complete or terminate your education. Your account will be credited at the Office of Student Accounts only after you sign a promissory note.al, Jesuit and Semifinalist Scholarships
Federal Work-Study Program
This aid is not credited to your Fordham Student Account. Wages are paid monthly, directly to you, for the hours actually worked in the form of a paycheck. The maximum annual earnings are limited to the amount listed in your award letter. If you have been offered work-study in your package and you accept the offer, the Office of Student Employment will contact you during the summer to arrange an interview and placement in an on-campus position. Employment on campus is another opportunity to be a part of the Fordham community while earning income to meet your day to day educational expenses.
Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) Grant
This aid is limited to New York State residents who have been designated as eligible for the HEOP program. It is gift aid which does not have to be repaid. Part of this aid is credited to your account. If you are a commuting student, a portion of the HEOP grant will be paid to you in the form of a stipend., Jesuit and Semifinalist Scholarships
