Javier Morgado

Javier Morgado is a veteran, four-time Emmy award-winning executive producer with more than two decades of experience in network, cable, and local TV news. He led CNN’s morning show, “New Day,” for nearly seven years, where he was responsible for overseeing the editorial production and strategic vision for 15 hours of live programming every week.  Morgado won two News Emmy awards during his CNN tenure for breaking news coverage of George Floyd’s murder and the FBI’s Roger Stone raid. He also is a recipient of the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for continuing coverage of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Prior to joining CNN, Morgado held several management positions at NBC News during his 11-year run. He served as supervising producer of NBC’s “TODAY” show from 2006–2010, for which he won two Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding morning program. Morgado got his start in local news in the mid-1990s in his hometown of Miami. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Media Management from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from New York University. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Communication.

Morgado joined the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Gabelli School of Business in 2022. He is currently the chairman of the Board of Trustees for the prestigious Martha Graham Dance Company. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Ali Forney Center, the Stonewall Community Foundation, and the University of Miami Alumni Association, as well as on the Leadership Council of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and the Dean’s Advisory Committee at the University of Miami School of Communication.
