College Application

Applying to college can feel overwhelming—but with the right tools and timeline, it’s completely manageable. This workshop provides a comprehensive overview of each step in the college application process, including how to present your best self on paper.

College Application Process

1. Understanding the Common Application

The Common App is a centralized application platform used by over 900 colleges and universities, including Fordham. It allows you to complete one application and send it to multiple schools.

2. Crafting Your College Essay

Your essay is your chance to showcase who you are beyond grades and test scores.

3. Letters of Recommendation

Most schools require at least one academic recommendation. It’s a good idea to ask teachers who know you well—ideally from junior or senior year. Fordham requires one, but welcomes additional letters.

4. Standardized Test Scores

Fordham is test-optional, meaning you can choose whether or not to submit your SAT/ACT scores. If you choose to send them:

5. Application Deadlines

  • Early Action (Non-Binding): November 1 → Extended to November 8

  • Early Decision (Binding): November 1 → Extended to November 8

  • Priority Performance (Theatre/Dance Majors): November 1 → Extended to November 8

  • Regular Decision: January 3 → Extended to January 15

6. College Research

  • Attend college fairs, speak with admissions reps, and use online tools to discover schools that fit your academic, social, and financial needs.

  • Visit campuses to get a feel for the environment.
