Paid Professional Development Leaves

Dear Colleagues,

The Office of the Provost invites all eligible full-time employees covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Fordham University and SEIU Local 200United to apply for one of two available Paid Professional Development Leaves to be taken in either Fall 2019 or Spring 2020.

Eligibility: Full-Time Bargaining Unit Faculty Members with a minimum of 5 academic years of full-time teaching at the University who have not had a paid semester professional development leave in the previous 7 years may apply. Each year of part-time teaching may be counted as one-half of a year of full-time teaching up to a maximum of 2 full-time years for purposes of determining eligibility.

Expectations for Work Performed: Recipients of a Paid Professional Development Leave are released from all teaching duties for the semester. The University expects that proposed projects will involve an equivalent amount of work that will benefit the recipient, our students, the recipient’s colleagues, and the University.

Expected Outcomes: Paid Professional Development Leaves are an investment by Fordham University in the recipient, the unit, and the School. The University expects a number of benefits to result:

  • The proposed project should improve the subject knowledge and/or teaching skills of the recipient.
  • This personal growth should translate into benefits for our students in the classroom.
  • Knowledge and skills gained during the Development Leave should be shared with colleagues in the unit and School through formal and informal communication.

Selection Metrics:

  • Benefit of the proposal to applicant
  • Benefit of the proposal to Fordham students and instructional staff
  • Likelihood of success
  • Quality and completeness of proposal
