Fordham University is dedicated to the core values of diversity, equity and inclusion and makes resources available specifically for the Gabelli School community. Dean Donna Rapaccioli actively allocates resources to diversity related initiatives and programs. GSB is so committed to DEI that we reach beyond our resources to work with foundations and corporations to subsidize some of our DEI programming.

Clarence Edward Ball III Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Clarence E. Ball III - Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Management.

Professor Clarence E. Ball III has been leading the Gabelli School’s DEI initiatives since 2017. He was recently appointed as Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for GSB. In this capacity he will work with all members of our school community to prioritize inclusion while promoting scholarly, academic, professional and social growth for students, faculty and staff. Clarence completed the 18-month DEI certification program at Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 2019. Through Cornell’s program, he is a certified Diversity professional and an advanced practitioner (CCCDP/AP).

As an administrator, and full-time faculty member, Clarence has been actively involved with the University’s push to increase DEI and C-E-L at Fordham University. His DEI work at GSB has been funded in part by securing corporate grants and programs. His C-E-L work led him to create the Gabelli School’s Corporate Communications Pipeline Program alongside the  Gabelli School’s Corporate Communications Pipeline Program alongside the Center for Community Engaged Learning. Alongside Dean Lerzan Aksoy, Dir. Ball recently completed co-leading the team drafting the strategic plan for DEI at the Gabelli School. 

Clarence joined the Gabelli School faculty in 2014. He lectures in the Area of Communication and Media Management. He is a doctoral candidate in the Contemporary Learning and Interdisciplinary Research program in Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. In his spare time, he is an independent education consultant serving the Bronx community.  He is a proud member of The Abyssinian Baptist Church of Harlem (est. 1808), Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. (est. 1911), and the One Hundred Black Men of New York (est. 1964). 

DEI Faculty Strategic Planning Committee

The Gabelli School’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Strategic Planning Task Force was convened map out a series of action steps to further commit to the school to its mission of inclusion.  The task force was led by Lerzan Aksoy, Associate Dean of the Undergraduate School and Strategic Initiatives and Clarence Ball, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. As Director, Clarence will be responsible for steering, researching, navigating and implementing the action steps espoused in the planning draft.
