Managing Anxiety During Stressful Times

Fears created by the evolving COVID-19 situation are real. We found a few tips to help you keep the stress at bay:

  • Find trusted sources of information and follow them. Trying to read every news source will leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. This CDC page has lots of good information.
  • Connect with friends and family members. Whether you’re self-isolating or social distancing, being stuck at home creates challenges. Be sure to talk to your loved ones regularly to share how you’re doing.
  • Take breaks. Make time to unwind and focus on yourself. Try taking in deep breaths and doing activities you usually enjoy.
  • Ask for help you need it. If stress impacts your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to a counselor, doctor or clergy member. You can also contact SAMHSA’s helpline at 1-800-985-5990. Optum is also offering a free emotional support line at 1-866-342-6892.

LifeWorks, our Employee Assistance Program through MetLife, provides free, 24/7 resources and support. If you are enrolled in a Fordham UnitedHealthcare plan, you have access to registered nurses or counselors, and virtual medical and behavioral health visits.
