Leave for Caring for a Relative with a Serious Health Condition
Eligibility
To be eligible for New York Paid Family Leave (NYPFL) for a qualifying event, employees must meet the following minimum time-worked requirements:
- Employees who work a regular schedule of 20 or more hours per week are eligible after 26 consecutive weeks of employment.
- Employees who work a regular schedule of less than 20 hours per week are eligible after working 175 days, which do not need to be consecutive.
Employees with irregular schedules should look at their average schedule to determine if they work, on average, fewer than 20 hours per week.
Leave can be taken all at once, intermittently, or as a reduced schedule.
When both spouses or Legally Domiciled Adults (LDAs) are employed by the University and each wishes to take leave to care for the same covered injured or ill service member, their combined total leave for this purpose is limited to 26 weeks.
Leave can be taken all at once, intermittently, or as a reduced schedule.
