Introduction to Music History: American Music and Jazz
Session I, May 30 - June 29
Lincoln Center: TWTh, 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.

This course explores a variety of musical styles and practices from the late 1800s to the present, with special emphasis on blues, jazz, musical theatre, and art music. These styles and traditions of American music will be examined as political and cultural texts along with their musical identity as "American." No previous knowledge of music is required. Syllabus
